OAKWOOD, VA (JULY 24, 2024) – Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP) Alumnus Derek Webb, of Abingdon, VA, has been appointed to the Virginia Board of Pharmacy by Governor Glenn Youngkin.
“We are very proud of Derek and his recent appointment to the statewide Virginia Board of Pharmacy,” said ACP Provost and Dean Susan Mayhew. “Derek was a stellar student at ACP and a member of our first graduating class. We have watched with pride in his accomplishments as he has pursued his career in pharmacy and we congratulate him on his recent appointment.”
Webb, who graduated in ACP’s inaugural class in 2008, has been a pharmacist with Food City in Abingdon, VA, for the past 17 years since his graduation and currently serves as pharmacy manager.
He is also a current member of the Abingdon Town Council, having first been elected in 2018. He served as the town mayor from 2021-2023.
“It is truly an honor to be appointed by the governor to the board of pharmacy,” Webb said. “It is humbling to be asked to be one of the policy makers statewide in your profession.”
Webb earned his bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from King College in 2005 prior to enrolling at ACP. While at ACP, he was a member of the student chapters of the American Pharmacists Association the Virginia Pharmacists Association. He was also a member of the Rho Chi honor society.
“ACP gave me the tools I needed to succeed in the profession of pharmacy,” Webb said.
Webb is married to Rebecca and they have one daughter, Eleanor, age 12.
The Appalachian College of Pharmacy is the only three-year Doctor of Pharmacy program in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Founded in 2003, the college accepted its first students in 2005. It is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Its mission is to cultivate a learning community committed to education, community outreach and the professional development of pharmacists. Its graduate pharmacists are now practicing throughout the United States.
