Dr. Kristen Preston is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Appalachian College of Pharmacy. She attended the University of Kentucky where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with an emphasis in Biotechnology in 1991, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1995 and a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree in 2003, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

Dr. Preston practiced as a hospital clinical pharmacist for 20 years, specializing in Critical Care Pharmacy for most of that time. She established the first Surgical/Intensive Care Unit Satellite Pharmacy at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville Kentucky, as well as one of the few critical care rotation sites in the state. 

After joining Appalachian College of Pharmacy in 2015, Dr. Preston established and maintained an Ambulatory Care Practice Site in Pikeville, KY for 8 years, specializing in Diabetes Self Management Education.

During her years of practice, she enjoyed being a preceptor for a number of Colleges of Pharmacy and was named Preceptor of the Year by the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 2007.

A native Eastern Kentuckian, Dr. Preston resides in Pikeville, Kentucky with her husband and several dogs and cats. She enjoys camping, fishing, gardening and music of all kinds. In her spare time she performs in an all-female bluegrass band, Coaltown Dixie. In 2021, she helped found The Mountain Grrl Experience, a music and arts festival with the intent to celebrate the creativity, strength and resilience of Appalachian women in a safe and supportive environment.
