Dr. Ingo Engels serves the College as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry.
Dr. Engels began his research career at the University of Tübingen in Germany in 1992 where he worked as a full time researcher from 1998 until 2001, when he received his Ph.D. Dr. Engels continued his research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Münster in Germany until 2002, whereupon he joined Novartis in San Diego, California, first as a Postdoctoral Associate and then as a Principal Investigator.
Dr. Engels’s research has primarily focused on the study of the cell death process (apoptosis) and its application for the therapy of cancer. He has published highly cited scientific articles in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and numerous conference abstracts. In his capacity of a Principal Investigator, Dr. Engels headed a laboratory dedicated to assay development and automated high throughput screening of large chemical libraries for both Novartis’s internal drug discovery projects as well as academic collaborations.
In his leisure time, Dr. Engels enjoys swimming, hiking with his family and dog and having great times cooking with friends.
