President McGlothlin has been involved with higher education in Southwest Virginia since 1985. He served for approximately twenty-five (25) years as a member of the College Board of the University of Virginia’s College at Wise (formerly Clinch Valley College Advisory Board) where he chaired the Student Affairs Committee. He has served as a member of the Appalachian School of Law’s Board of Trustees since 2002. He has been Treasurer of that School and Chairman of its Finance Committee since 2005. He also serves as a member of the School’s Executive Committee. Mr. McGlothlin was a member of the original Board of Trustees of the Appalachian College of Pharmacy and served as Interim President of the College from 2005 to 2006. He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College from 2006 to 2008. In 2008 he again became the Interim President of the College and on February 17, 2009, he was appointed the full-time President and Chief Executive Officer of the College of Pharmacy by the Board of Trustees. Since its inception, President McGlothlin has chaired the College’s Building Committee which has overseen the renovations of Garden Hall, the construction of the College’s new classroom building, McGlothlin Hall, and the construction of the College’s parking lots, yards, and walk bridge. Also, he chairs the College’s Senior Executive and Executive Committees.

He has served as Commonwealth’s Attorney for Buchanan County and in that position served as the County’s chief criminal prosecutor. He also has served as a special prosecutor in adjoining jurisdictions. He served as the County Attorney for Buchanan County from 1984 to 1989 and again from 1992 to 2011. In that position he was in charge of handling the County’s civil legal matters. President McGlothlin has handled a large variety of legal matters during his legal career. He is a past president of the Buchanan County Bar Association.

President McGlothlin currently serves as a member of the board of directors of several for profit and not-for-profit corporations which includes the McGlothlin Foundation, McGlothlin Cemetery Company, MGM Methane Corporation, New Peoples Bank, The Inn on Garden Creek LTD, and Watkins Branch Development. Mr. McGlothlin has been involved in numerous community service activities and has served as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America and as a past district chairman for the Breaks District of the Boy Scouts of America; as a baseball coach at both the high school and little league levels; as a little league basketball coach; and as a member of the Grundy Kiwanis Club of which he was a past president. Mr. McGlothlin has served as a member of the Virginia State Board of Forestry and as a member of the Great Southwest Group Home Commission.

President McGlothlin received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1974 and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1976. He graduated from Garden High School which was located in what is now the College’s Garden Hall. He attended Elementary School at Garden Elementary School which was located in what is now the College’s parking lot.
